She said some visitors have stopped by out of curiosity and end up staying the whole day. Prather, a Boulder-based volunteer for the tour, said she has seen a wide range of reactions to the relics. We don`t believe the mind dies,” she said. “We believe it`s the masters communicating with us. Masters leave the relics behind as a reminder that all have an inherent ability to develop those qualities, Prather said. “They actually come from the ashes of the masters and are said to be remnants of the qualities of compassion and wisdom,” Prather said. Many Buddhists believe the relics came from the cremation ashes of important spiritual masters around the world, including the ashes of Shakyamuni, the founder of the religion. The tour, organized by the Maitreya Project, is open to people of all spiritual traditions. The free event is meant to inspire visitors to reflect on feelings of peace and loving kindness. The relics, which have continually toured the world since 2001, will be on display in Boulder today and tomorrow at the Masonic Lodge in Boulder, 2205 Broadway. “I`m a pretty skeptical person, but that developed into a real reverence.” “It takes a little while, but I felt so peaceful in their presence,” she said. ![]() The first time she saw the relics - said to appear where great Buddhist teachers were cremated - her reaction went from one of puzzlement to one of wonder. ![]() The tiny, pearl-shaped objects may not look like much, but they had a profound effect on Buddhists like Elizabeth Prather.
